Youth In Action,Baidoa field team visited IDP camps in Howlwadag Baidoa

YIA, Baidoa field team: Mahad Mohamed, Mohamed Isaack Batar and Hodan) went for filed mission to the IDP camps yesterday morning around 09:00 till 11:00.  They visited three IDPs camp and here are the back to office narrative report submitted by the team and snapshots taken during the mission.

Gaboy Yarey

Youth In Action field staff visited Gaboy Yarey on 12/8/2024. Gaboy Yarey locates at Howlwadag. During our visit, we met with Gadomiye kaltumo kerow Cabdi and Cabdi Muktar Manur. The head of the camp and her deputy informed us that the total IDP populations whom are currently in the camp are 150 families which 7 of the families are new and arrived on 8/8/2024.

These families have evacuated from their original settlements for fear from AS and drought. They brought with them nothing except a few clothes and cooking utensils. The head of the camp and her deputy also informed us that there are 7 separated children (4 girls and 3 Boys). 

The report of GBV incidents were also shared including 15 woman from the camp. It was attempted rape involve several perpetrators.

Also youth In Action field team did awareness raisin campaign about the importance of Hygiene promotion as well as Child protection, the team also provided vital information on how to report incidents, the best channels to use, and how to access assistance when needed.

Warsamale

The team also visited   IDP 2, Warsamale and had meeting with the head of the camp- Mohamed C/Rahman (contact number: 0614001191), and Nur Cali Hussein. The camp head and his assistance told us that total of the IDP population are 125 families which   fifteen of them were new. The newly arrives families are migrated from different locations:  Haafat, Eesow and Hassan Mumin on 2nd of August 2024. In camp, there are nine separated children (3 girl and 6 boys). The newly displaced families accompanied children at age of 5, 10 up to the 14. These children at school age but never attended one.  Beside data collection exercises, the team also met with some of the women in the camp and given awareness about hygiene and Protection.            

Doygabey

 Lastly the team visited IDP 3, Doygabey and had meeting with camp head and his assistance (1 Cabdi Adan Amiin, contact number:  0615303787 and Bilay Maxamed Hasan, contact number: 0612501711). The camp heads told us that the total IDP populations in the camp are 141 families which 9 families of them are new. They arrived to the camp on 5/8/2024, and they are from different locations: Gurban and Doygabey, and displaced due to prevailed insecurity and drought at their localities.

They have 9 toilets but no one use them. This is because of toilets filled to their capacity and there are full of human wastes overflown all the areas surrounding toilets. We also came to know that in the IDP population there is a little girl who originally came from Lasaanod.  She has been living with a woman for a while without knowing her identity, but the woman evicted her from her house a few days ago and now she is in the hands of the camp leader.
